Stylish Wheels

There were lots of amazing art cars in the desert this year but these two stood out as my favs.

I am so impressed by this mechanical dragon made of objects found in a kitchen, like jello molds, pie tins and silverware. The creator is a guy from Humboldt. An artist by trade (graphic art) he and a couple friends put this baby together. They operate it with their feet, kind of like a bicycle. It is hard to tell from the video, but the range of motion on this thing is really life-like (that is, if fire breathing dragons really did exist).

Check out the dragon here:

I fell madly in love with the motorized antique house called 'The Traveling Academy of Unnatural Science'. It was built by some of the SF folks who created another of my all-time favorites, La Contessa , a built-to-scale Spanish galleon built around the chassis of an old school bus. If you are interested - google for the tragic back story on La Contessa being torched by a crazed arsonist.
